Throsby Navigation Tower Relocation
Project Overview
Port of Newcastle is responsible for the maintenance and operation of a portfolio of marine navigation aids to ensure safe and continuous operation of the port.
In August 2025, works commenced to relocate the Throsby Navigation Tower – known as Navigation Aid 52 – from its current location in the carpark adjacent Hannell Street and Honeysuckle Drive to a location in the seawall alongside Throsby Creek.
Construction of the new tower was completed in December 2025, and demolition of the existing tower was completed in March 2026
About the New Tower
The new Throsby Navigation Aid is significantly shorter than the original tower, standing at just 7 metres tall. It has been built into the seawall and is fitted with modern, solar powered LED lighting, making it more efficient and reliable.
The new navigation light has been configured to mimic the existing arrangement so residents and members of the public should not notice a discernible difference in its brightness.
Impact of Works
This project is now complete. No further impact relating to construction or demolition is anticipated.
